This downwinder is an express version of our classic route. It covers the same distance but in less days. As the classic route, it starts in Taiba and ends in Jericoacoara– – 250km in 8 days – be ready to ride in all kind of spots and conditions. Breathtaking landscapes, completely unspoilt beaches and crazy sunsets.
Those who are looking for an intense downwind trip, look no further, this trip is for you. You’ll be doing 30km to 70km downwind every day. This will be a challening, but tremendously rewarding experience. A true adventure during which you’ll get to discover all the secret and not so secret spots along Ceara’s coastline between Taiba and Jericoacoara.
This downwind trip is for riders with an intermmediate-advance level, with some experience in downwinds, who are comfortable riding for 3-4 hours with 1m – 2m waves and who dominate the toeside riding technique.
The pit stops are strategically chosen with 2 nights minimum in each place allowing time not only to rest, but also to really get to know each spot well.

PROGRAM
DAY 1: Transfer Cumbuco -> Taiba – Kite in wave spot in Taiba and downwind to Guajirú (50km)
DAY 2: Downwind Guajirú -> Icaraizinho (55km)
DAY 3: Kite in Icaraizinho – downwind to Moitas and kite in Patos Lagoon
DAY 4: Downwind Icaraizinho -> Ilha do Guajiru (30km)
DAY 5: Downwind Ilha do Guajirú – Jericoaocara (60km)
DAY 6: Downwind Jericoacoara – Guriú – back to Jeri in the afternoon (10km)
DAY 7: Downwind Jericoacoara – Tatajuba – back to Jeri in the afternoon (19km)
DAY 8: Transfer to Cumbuco or Fortaleza airport
There will always be 1 or 2 guides in the water depending on the size of group.
It’s important to note that during the downwinds, the 4x4s won’t be able to follow the group along the beach at all times because of river mouths, mangroves, etc. that you’ll find along the way. During these parts you may by all means go in the car if you wish. Guides are there not only to lead the group, but also to ensure the safety of the group during the downwinds. If they believe there’s anyone who hasn’t have the necessary skills to ride along some advanced parts of the downwind, this person will have to go in the 4×4 during these parts for his own safety and the group’s as well.
We recommend you bring 2 different sized kites, 2 bars and 2 boards. To repair any type of material can be fairly complicated for the most part which is why we recommend bringing extra to avoid these types of situations. Also, one should bear in mind that being close to the equator, the sun is very strong so a good quality water proof sunscreen is a must. Zinc works very well. Sunglasses, long sleeve with UV protection and a hat is always a good idea.
If you’re a group of at least 3 friends, it is possible to personalise this trip for you by staying more or less days in each place. All you would have to do is let us know how you would like your Kite Safari to be and we will make it happen.
