a jewel at the foot of one of the largest national parks of dunes and lagoons in Brasil known as Lençois Maranhenses. This tiny fisherman’s village is found in the delta of the River Preguiças, surrounded by sandbanks which emerge during low tide forming large lagoons of flat water, making this place an authentic paradise for kitesurfer of all levels. The village of Atins has really maintained its authenticity with its sandy streets and coconut trees here, there and everywhere. It will take your breath away.

The tides play a very important role here, as much for the beautiful landscapes in Atins as for the kite conditions that this paradise offers. When low tide arrives sandbanks emerge forming perfect turquoise lagoons with flat water ideal for freestyle.
Where the ocean meets the sandbanks that protect Atins, waves start to roll in – perfect for kitewave. When the tide rises the waters tend to be quite choppy but there is so much more space to play with! Downwind trips can also be organised to totally deserted beaches returning by sea or land.
The wind blows constantly side on shore from June until January (15 – 30 knots) and the temperature never drops below 25˚C. This, together with the warm waters of Atins allows you to be in the water for hours.
Thanks to its location, Atins offers so many fun outdoor activities besides kitesurf. The magical, world-wide renowned lagoons of the National Park of Lençois Maranhenses National Park are full until September – October. It would be a big mistake not to see this magnificent park whilst experiencing the simple and charming life of the indigenous people who live in tiny villages along the way. The best part is there are so many ways to see them from a rewarding hike to an authentic horse ride to the speedier options with 4x4s or quads! Whatever way you experience this you will not regret – it truly is spectacular experience that should not be missed out on your trip to Brazil.

Local Currency
The Brazilian currency is called Brazilian Real (R$) and we advise you to check the exchange rates when exchanging your money.
Food & Drinks
Atins lies on the border of the Atlantic Ocean and at the foot of The Lençóis Maranhenses National Park meaning it is completely isolated from civilisation. It is a village that lives off fishing so you can find fresh fish everyday. A few years back a number of foreigners who were travelling through decided to stay and opened up a couple of restaurants, one of which in the Pousada Maresias with whom we are pleased to say we colaborate with and where they serve fire-oven pizzas and delicious homemade pasta.
Internet Connection & Plugs
Every pousada that we work with offers a high speed wifi connection. The plugs have a two pin and fit into a type N socket (same as plugs used in most of Europe).
Vaccines & Medicines
In this region of the northeast of Brazil one does not need to be vaccinated, but we would advise you to consult your doctor to inform yourself about vaccinations should you decide to visit other parts of Brazil during your stay.
At the same time we advise you to bring a small First Aid Kit for convenience as it can be very difficult to find medicine especially in the more rural locations.
