is one of many fishing villages typical to the northeast coast of Brazil found only 13km away from it’s better known neighbour, Jericoacoara. Aside from the pumping winds, Prea boasts a calm and laid-back vibe which can only be found in the lesser known and undiscovered villages along this renowned northeastern stretch, similar qualities which probably attracted the pioneer windsurfers who landed in the 80’s.
While it may offer less variety when it comes to deciding where to sleep, it does not lack in quality. Pre is truly a fantastic place to kitesurf, switch off from the world and relax!

These are the different spots where you can kitesurf around Preá:
Prea’s beach is around 15km long and the wind pumps right the way along it. When there is low tide you’ll find flat water by the shore perfect for kite wave. With such a massive stretch of beach, you’ll never have a problem with space.
Preá is a great starting point to do a downwind all the way to Jericoacoara, whilst riding waves along the way.
Guriú: Guriú´s lagoon is a rad flat water spot ideal for freestyle and equally for those just starting to kite or those trying to perfect a trick or two. There are two ways of getting here, either by buggy / 4×4 though the dunes – firstly passing by the “Por do sol” dune just after Jericoacoara continuing on to Guriu. This downwind is approximately 30km from start to finish.
Lagoa do Paraiso: A beautiful caribbean-like, immense lagoon where wind starts to pick up from around midday and go straight through until the sun goes down. Situated inland means that for the most part winds are pretty gusty which is why you’ll hardly ever see more than 10 kites out at the same time. This lagoon can only be accessed by grabbing a buggy or 4×4. Kiting or no kiting, this hidden gem is definitely worth a visit either way!
Preá is probably one of, if not, the windiest spots found on the whole northeastern coast of Brazil. From July to February the wind pumps between 20 and 35 knots without fail.
The temperature of the water does not go below 28˚C and outside of the water temperatures range between 25˚C and 35˚C.
If you’re looking for something else to do after or between a day of kitesurfing you can catch a quick ride next door to Jericoacoara only 15km away where you’ll we spoilt for choice; there you’ll find all sorts of activities no matter if it’s day or night! Trips found at the top of our list include days out by buggy or 4×4 to do a lot of nothing on the white sanded beaches and in the turquoise waters of Lagoa do Paraiso and Lagoa Azul.

The journey is approximately 6.5 hours.

Food & Drinks
The advantage of being in Prea is that you have the tranquility that it offers with the option of going to Jaricoacoara closeby if you’re looking for more of a buzz and more choices of where to eat and drink.
In Preá itself there are a few restaurants which mostly offer typical dishes of the region. La pousada Rancho do Peixe has a more varied menu with European twists, good quality and unbeatable views of the ocean.
Internet Connection & Plugs
Every pousada that we work with offers a high speed wifi connection. The plugs have a two pin and fit into a type N socket (same as plugs used in most of Europe).
Vaccines & Medicines
In this region of the northeast of Brazil one does not need to be vaccinated, but we would advise you to consult your doctor to inform yourself about vaccinations should you decide to visit other parts of Brazil during your stay.
At the same time we advise you to bring a small First Aid Kit for convenience as it can be very difficult to find medicine especially in the more rural locations.
